The Master’s Degree in Secondary School Teaching is the official qualification that provides the compulsory pedagogical and didactic training required to work as a teacher in secondary education, sixth form, vocational training and languages, replacing the former CAP (Certificate of Professional Aptitude).
This master’s degree prepares you to meet the real needs of schools, combining pedagogical training, teaching practice and specialisation, with an approach focused on both the classroom and preparation for teaching competitive examinations.
You will be taught through live online classes, using digital resources and with continuous academic support, ensuring a participatory experience and constant guidance. The master's degree in teacher training is aimed at graduates who wish to teach in Compulsory Secondary Education, Baccalaureate, Vocational Training or Language Teaching and who have sufficient training in the subjects corresponding to their chosen speciality (consult for specialities, preferential access qualifications and related qualifications).
Note on professional attachment: The Master's degree is a necessary but not sufficient condition to work as a Secondary Education Teacher. In public schools, it is necessary to pass the corresponding competitive examination. In private and state-subsidised schools, the requirements are established in Royal Decree 860/2010 of 2 July and Royal Decree 665/2015 of 17 July, which regulates the initial training conditions for teachers in private schools to teach in Compulsory Secondary Education or Baccalaureate. Vocational education and training and special education also have other specific regulations. The application of these regulations may vary in the different Autonomous Communities. In case of doubt, it is advisable to consult the corresponding services of the public administrations.

Taking a double specialisation: This option is not part of the academic offer, given that, in accordance with Royal Decree 860/2010, of 2 July, and Royal Decree 665/2015, of 17 July, teaching in secondary education depends on the undergraduate university qualifications that the candidate holds, while the specialisation taken in the master's degree has an exclusively educational-pedagogical function.

Alfonso X El Sabio University has approved and published a regulation adapted to Royal Decree 1393/2007 to deal with the transfer and recognition of credits.
Among its articles it is stated that the recognition of credits in official Master's degree courses will be carried out taking into account the adequacy between the competences and knowledge derived from the courses taken and those foreseen in the syllabus of the corresponding courses.

Yes, this Master’s Degree in Teacher Training replaces what was previously known as the Certificate of Pedagogical Aptitude (CAP).
The CAP was discontinued in the 2009/2010 academic year. The current title is the Master’s Degree in Teacher Training for Compulsory Secondary Education and Sixth Form, Vocational Training and Language Teaching.
It depends on the career path you choose. A Master’s degree in Teacher Training is a compulsory requirement to work as a teacher in secondary education, sixth form, vocational training and language teaching. However, you only need to sit the competitive examination if you wish to secure a post as a civil servant teacher in the state education system.
If your aim is to work in private or state-subsidised schools, you will not normally have to pass a competitive examination, although you will need to hold the relevant qualifying qualification, such as the Master’s in Teacher Training.
