Sports physiotherapy is one of the fastest-growing areas of specialisation within the profession. Our methodology is based on a competency-based learning model, designed to help you develop the clinical, technical and decision-making skills required by today’s professional practice.
Through a practical, interdisciplinary approach centred on solving real-world problems, you will learn to assess, prevent, treat and rehabilitate sports injuries in different contexts and disciplines. The programme combines clinical simulation, analysis of real-life cases and practical experience, enabling you to practise professional skills in safe environments before working with patients and athletes.
Furthermore, you will integrate the digital and technological skills that are increasingly prevalent in modern sports physiotherapy, working with tools for biomechanical analysis, functional assessment, advanced simulation and technologies applied to sporting performance and recovery.
To this end, you will receive training in key areas such as functional recovery in sport, the physiological and pathophysiological foundations of physical activity, sports rehabilitation, injury prevention, women and sport, and sport and functional diversity.
In addition to their professional and research experience, students particularly highlight the approachability and accessibility of the teaching staff. The format of the Master’s programme, the small class sizes and the ongoing contact with lecturers foster personalised attention and close support throughout the entire learning process. The graduate profile is a physiotherapy professional with specialised postgraduate training in the field of sport: able to achieve prevention by knowing the athlete and the sporting speciality, able to detect the possible injury by carrying out a comprehensive assessment, able to treat the injury with the appropriate techniques to obtain optimal results and able, in order to prevent recurrence, to carry out the readaptation of the injury to the specific sport.
In this sense, its specialised nature differentiates it from a graduate, insofar as it focuses on working with professional athletes and/or sports amateurs, which allows it to master in greater depth, the assessment and treatment of injuries produced by physical activity and sport, as well as to apply specific methods for the treatment and prevention of sports injuries, taking into account the necessary rapid and safe recovery of the sports patient, as well as the optimisation of their performance and the prevention of future injuries.
They are also able to interact with the sports community and the psychosocial environment of the sportsperson, have the ability to work in integration with the rest of the professionals in the sports environment and are able to critically evaluate their practice in relation to new information, designing and developing projects in the field of physical activity and sport physiotherapy.
A teaching staff with links to clinical practice and research
Learn alongside professionals who combine teaching with their clinical and research work. Their experience of working with athletes on a day-to-day basis and their involvement in research projects enable them to bring a practical, up-to-date and scientifically evidence-based approach to sports physiotherapy into the classroom.
