To enhance the profile and professional projection of a Graduate in Veterinary Medicine, specialisation is key. For this reason, at UAX you have the opportunity to take a postgraduate course in veterinary medicine in one of the most sought-after areas in clinical practice: emergencies.
The programme of the Expert Diploma in Small Animal Emergencies has been designed in collaboration with Improve Veterinary Education, the leading postgraduate school in high-level veterinary training.
In addition, at the end of your postgraduate course, you will have the opportunity to obtain the General Practitioner Certificate, awarded by the ISVPS (International School of Veterinary Postgraduate Studies) *Exam and accreditation fees are not included in the registration fee.
In an emergency, every second counts. In this postgraduate course you will gain confidence, agility and dexterity by learning alongside experts from Improve Veterinary Education and UAX. In addition, you will put into practice everything you have learnt by doing intensive clinical practice with patients at the UAX Veterinary Clinical Hospital.
UAX alumni and students with a degree in veterinary medicine are eligible.

Sabela Atencia: Diploma in Internal Medicine by the European College (DipECVIM). She has worked in Reference Hospitals in the UK and is currently the head of the Internal Medicine Department at Vetsia Veterinary Hospital and Associate Professor in the Department of Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at the Complutense University of Madrid.
Vicente Herrería Bustillo: He is a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society. He is currently Head of the Emergency and Critical Care Service of the Veterinary Hospital of the Catholic University of Valencia, where he is also Professor of the Department of Animal Medicine and Surgery.
Josep Pastor: Since 1991 he has been a lecturer in Medical Pathology and combines his teaching activity with his work in the Veterinary Clinic Hospital of the UAB. He has made several stays in centres in the United States to deepen his knowledge of small animal clinics, and has participated in numerous conferences at both national and international congresses.
Verónica Salazar Nussio: She is currently coordinator and lecturer of the core subject "Anaesthesiology" of the Veterinary Degree at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the Alfonso X el Sabio University. She has published numerous research articles in both neuroscience and clinical anaesthesia and analgesia in indexed and peer reviewed journals.
Luis Sánchez: He completed a one-year internship in the department of internal medicine of exotic animals at the Complutense University of Madrid. He has completed his training in several reference centres specialised in exotic animals. She has published several articles and papers in various journals and universities. He is currently the person in charge of the exotic animal medicine and surgery service at Hospital La Chopera.
Carlos Ros: Carlos is a European specialist in Neurology and Neurosurgery by the EBVS® and ECVN (European Board of Veterinary Specialisation and the European College of Veterinary Neurology).
Vicente Herrería Bustillo: Diploma in Emergency and Intensive Care by the European and American College (Dipl.ACVECC Dipl.ECVECC ). He is a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society. Josep Arus Martí: DVM, Diplomate of the European College for Animal Reproduction.
Graduated in veterinary medicine from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) in 1994. Veterinarian working in the reproduction service at Anicura Arvivet Hospital Veterinari in Terrassa (Barcelona).
German Santamaría Pernas: Professor of Clinical Veterinary Medicine in the Department of Anatomy, Animal Production and Clinical Veterinary Sciences of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Lugo of the USC and develops his clinical-assistance activity in the Internal Medicine Service of the Rof Codina University Veterinary Hospital.
Ana Miriam Girol Piñer: She worked for two years in the Emergency Department of the Hospital Veterinari Montjuïc in Barcelona. Afterwards, she did a general internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the Fundació Hospital Clínic Veterinari of the UAB. In 2017 he completed an internship specialising in Emergency and Intensive Care at the Hospital Veterinario de Referencia UCV and later the Residency in this speciality at the European College.
Manuel Benlloch González: joins in 2018 the surgery service of the Veterinary Hospital Canis Mallorca where he is involved in the management of cases of soft tissue surgery, traumatology-orthopaedics and neurosurgery. He also actively participates in surgical training courses for other veterinary colleagues and in experimental surgery projects with the University of the Balearic Islands. He is the author of publications in specialised journals and lectures at national and international level.
Naima Cassez Porquet: Degree in Veterinary Medicine from the Complutense University of Madrid. Veterinarian at the Centro Veterinario Madrid Exóticos.
Alejandro Bayyón del Rio: Doctor in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Murcia where he is currently Professor in the Department of Animal Medicine and Surgery. He is responsible for the Ophthalmology Service at the Veterinary Hospital of the University of Murcia.
Alicia Álvarez Punzano: Head of the Emergency, Intensive Care and HCV Hospitalisation Service at UAX, coordinator of the Emergency Department at the same centre. Accredited by AVEPA in Emergency and Intensive Care, and currently undertaking the Emergency and Intensive Care Residency programme at the European College.
Alba Martínez Martínez: She completed the rotating internship at the HCV UAX, then the speciality internship in Emergency and Intensive Care at the same centre, and is currently a member of the Hospitalisation, Emergency and Intensive Care team at the HCV UAX and lecturer in the subject of Small Animal Emergencies and Emergencies.

Admission requirements:
- Students with a degree in veterinary medicine at UAX.
- Students with conditional registration TFG + 9 ECTS (this registration must always be accepted by the Dean's Office and the student cannot have ECTS of clinical subjects).
