General entry requirements: As a general rule, entry to a PhD programme requires applicants to hold official Spanish Bachelor’s degrees, or equivalent, and Master’s degrees, or equivalent, provided that they have completed at least 300 ECTS credits across these two programmes.
Furthermore, admission may be granted to those who meet any of the following criteria:
a) Hold official Spanish university degrees or equivalent Spanish qualifications, provided that they have completed at least 300 ECTS credits across these two programmes and can demonstrate Level 3 of the Spanish Qualifications Framework for Higher Education.
b) Hold a qualification obtained under foreign education systems belonging to the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), without the need for equivalence recognition, which attests to Level 7 of the European Qualifications Framework, provided that such a qualification entitles the holder to access doctoral studies in the country where it was awarded. Under no circumstances shall this admission imply the recognition of the prior qualification held by the applicant, nor its recognition for any purpose other than that of admission to doctoral programmes.
c) Hold a qualification obtained under foreign education systems outside the EHEA, without the need for equivalence, subject to the university verifying that it attests to a level of education equivalent to that of the official Spanish university Master’s degree and that it entitles the holder, in the country where the qualification was awarded, to access doctoral studies. Under no circumstances shall this admission imply the recognition of the applicant’s prior qualification, nor shall it be recognised for any purpose other than admission to doctoral programmes.
d) Hold another Doctorate degree.
e) University graduates who, having secured a training place through the relevant entrance examination for specialised healthcare training places, have successfully completed at least two years of training on a programme leading to the official qualification in one of the specialisms in Health Sciences.

Once the Academic Committee for each PhD programme has verified that the application meets the entry requirements, it will select and admit students in accordance with the admission criteria established for each programme. UAX’s PhD programmes shall reserve at least 5 per cent of the places on offer for students with a recognised degree of disability of 33 per cent or more, as well as for students with permanent special educational needs.  Any reserved places that remain unfilled will be added to those offered by the University under the general scheme in each admission round. The allocation and awarding of reserved places will be carried out in accordance with the assessment criteria applicable to each PhD programme.

The admission criteria for each programme are set out in the programme’s academic prospectus and may differ from one programme to another.

The Academic Committee will interview the candidate to clarify any of the activities detailed in the documentation provided, as well as to request any additional academic, research or professional information it deems appropriate for their potential admission to the doctoral programme. The procedure, criteria and admission requirements will be the same for both full-time and part-time students.

UAX provides a corporate email account to facilitate institutional communication. Your email account will be activated the day after you enrol. The email address will be in the format usuario@myuax.com. This account is created automatically and does not need to be requested. All communications will be sent to this address. Using your UAX username and password, you will have access to the virtual campus and the various services offered by UAX to new students; this will be essential for carrying out all the formalities relating to your doctoral studies.

-Virtual campus: On the virtual campus, you will find all the information you need regarding the formalities and procedures relating to teaching activities, the research plan, the doctoral thesis and other administrative matters that will help you manage your doctoral studies.
-Training activities: The training activities offered on each doctoral programme are managed via the virtual campus and must be included in the activity log once you have passed the relevant assessment.
-Research Plan and Personal Training Plan: These must be submitted to the Academic Committee of the PhD Programme within six months of the date of enrolment on the PhD programme. Should the report be unfavourable, you will be given a maximum of 30 days to submit the revised research plan.
-Activity Record: This will be compiled from activities carried out via the virtual campus, as well as attendance at conferences, publications, or any other activity arising from the thesis. The ad hoc Monitoring Committee will carry out an annual assessment of all these activities.
-Annual assessment: An annual assessment will be carried out each academic year in June. Newly enrolled students will be assessed in June of the following academic year. Please consult the academic calendar.
-Submission of the thesis. Once the doctoral thesis has been completed, the supervisor’s approval and the thesis document must be submitted to the Academic Committee for approval. This procedure will be carried out via the virtual campus, in the section ‘process prior to thesis submission’.

New students. Once they have received their offer of admission, they must enrol within 30 days of receiving it; failure to do so will render the offer invalid and they will not be able to commence their doctoral studies.
Second-year and subsequent-year students. They must renew their enrolment for each year of their doctoral programme. This must be done via the relevant online system, within the specified deadlines.
Duration of studies: you must submit your doctoral thesis within 4 years of enrolment if you are studying full-time, and within 7 years if you are studying part-time. Furthermore, if you have a degree of disability of 33 per cent or more, the duration will be 6 years for full-time study and 9 years for part-time study.

Admission to a PhD programme is a process that directly involves both the student wishing to join the programme and the Academic Committee responsible for it. To apply for admission to a PhD programme, you must bear the following in mind:

Check that you meet the entry requirements and the specific admission criteria.
Find out the details of the PhD programme you wish to undertake in the ‘Academic Offer’ section.
A letter of motivation is required.

- If you are admitted by the programme’s Academic Committee, you must:

Submit the required documentation to the Doctoral Secretariat in accordance with the instructions provided.
Complete your enrolment within thirty days of being notified of your admission by the Doctoral Committee.

1. When completing your application
You must submit, in PDF format (the following documents. Please note that these are the documents the Programme’s Academic Committee will use to assess your application for admission:

National Identity Card (Spanish citizens), passport or Foreigner Identification Number (NIE) (foreign nationals).
Curriculum vitae.
Higher education qualification(s) on the basis of which you are applying. See the general entry requirements.
Academic transcript showing the average mark or, failing that, an information sheet containing this information.
In the case of a foreign qualification, whether it is from the EHEA or from outside the EHEA, a certificate issued by the university that awarded the qualification, stating that the qualification grants access to doctoral studies in the country of issue.
Documentation supporting the application for part-time study, if applicable.
A personal statement of motivation.
2.- If you are admitted by the Academic Committee of the Doctoral Programme.
You must submit the following documents to the Doctoral Secretariat, preferably electronically; otherwise, your admission will be revoked:

Students with a national qualification:

A certified or verified copy of the degree(s) in accordance with the admission route (see the general admission requirements) or proof of payment of the issuance fees and the Master’s degree certificate, or proof that it has been applied for.
In the case of a recognised foreign qualification, a certified or verified photocopy of the recognition certificate issued by the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science.
Students with foreign qualifications, whether from the EHEA or outside the EHEA:

An up-to-date and legible photocopy of the National Identity Card (for Spanish citizens) or of the passport or Foreigner Identification Number (NIE) (for foreign nationals), and a curriculum vitae.
A certified or verified copy of the foreign higher education qualification and the Master’s degree, or proof that these have been applied for, as well as an academic transcript of the studies undertaken, stating, amongst other details, the official duration in academic years, the curriculum followed, the modules taken and the credit hours for each of them (both documents duly legalised and translated, where applicable). Legalisation will not be required in the case of academic documents issued by member states of the European Union or signatories to the Agreement on the European Economic Area.
A certified or verified copy of the certificate issued by the university that awarded the degree, stating that said degree grants access to doctoral studies in the country of issue (document duly legalised and translated). Legalisation is not required for academic documents issued by member states of the European Union or signatories to the Agreement on the European Economic Area.
Compulsory health insurance. All students who are not Spanish nationals, or nationals of any European Union member state, and who intend to reside in Spain for more than one month, are obliged to take out compulsory health insurance.
Academic documents must be submitted:

Academic qualifications not issued within the European Higher Education Area must be legalised. The legalisation or apostille must appear on the original document, prior to the production of the certified copy.
Important: original academic documents not issued in Spanish, English, French, Italian or Portuguese must be accompanied by a certified translation into one of the aforementioned languages.<br/>
