Intensive care units and other highly complex clinical settings require highly trained professionals who not only possess technical knowledge but also the ability to make critical decisions under high pressure. However, growing demand and advances in medical technology have highlighted a gap in the continuing professional development of healthcare professionals, particularly in highly specialised areas such as the care of critically ill patients. In response to this need, Alfonso X el Sabio University (UAX) and the Viamed hospital group are launching the ‘Diploma of Expertise in Critical Care’.
This qualification aims to provide nursing professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to deliver high-quality care in intensive care units, ensuring patient safety and excellence in care processes. “We share Viamed’s commitment to quality and innovation, and we both recognise the decisive role that nursing plays in the transformation of healthcare in Spain. That is why we promote innovative programmes that enable professionals to update their skills, specialise and develop the advanced competencies demanded by today’s healthcare context, which is becoming increasingly technology-driven and demanding,” says Aida Suárez, Dean of the Faculty of Biomedical and Health Sciences at UAX and Director of the One Health division at the UAX Group.
The ‘Diploma of Expertise in Critical Care’ combines flexible online learning with an intensive practical phase at the UAX Virtual Simulation Hospital. This training enables professionals to tackle real clinical scenarios in a simulated and controlled environment, thereby strengthening their ability to respond to critical situations.
UAX responding to the real needs of the workforce
Through this partnership, UAX and Viamed will offer training tailored to the needs of nursing professionals, providing them with tools to improve patient care and optimise care processes. In the long term, this initiative aims to contribute to greater safety in high-complexity units, to improve multidisciplinary working, and to create a model of educational excellence that is aligned with real-world needs and promotes the training of professionals to equip them to tackle the healthcare challenges of the future.
