More than 7,800 students are starting the academic year in the classrooms of Alfonso X el Sabio University (UAX), with their sights set on a future career where AI and advanced technologies are transforming businesses and demanding new skills and knowledge. To address these training needs, UAX, through its Observatory on the Impact of Technology on Professions, has produced the report “How technology continues to transform professions. The perspective of the world of work and academia’, in collaboration with MIT Technology Review in Spanish. The study highlights, amongst other key employment-related topics, the skills identified by experts from companies such as Repsol, CaixaBank, Quirónsalud and AESIA, which are:

  • Critical thinking: This enables a strategic relationship with AI by assessing the quality, accuracy and relevance of information, and facilitating a judicious, ethical and responsible interpretation of results.
  • Curiosity: It drives innovation . Having employees who are keen to learn, experiment and discover new ways of working is an asset for business development.
  • Adaptability: This accelerates the adoption of technology. Tackling new disruptions with flexibility and agility is a key skill for continuing to add value and avoiding being left behind.
  • Emotional intelligence: An essential complement. Developing communication and interpersonal skills is vital for teamwork and for building effective relationships with colleagues and customers.
  • Commitment to the organisation: Built by aligning employees’ purpose with that of the organisation, it fosters motivation and engagement at all levels.

In line with the prominence that soft skills have gained in the new professional landscape, UAX complements academic education through the UAX Skill School, an initiative which this academic year will mark its fifth year of equipping its students with fundamental skills for employability.

UAX promotes its distinctive values in the 2025–26 academic year

UAX thus begins the 2025–26 academic year with a high-quality range of courses, tailored to the demand for professionals in the labour market. The university is driving the development of global talent through fully English-taught degree programmes such as the Master’s Degree in Sports Marketing and Communication at the UAX Rafa Nadal University School, the Bachelor’s Degrees in Business Administration and Management (ADE) and in International Relations, and, in the field of health, the Dentistry Degree.

Furthermore, UAX is expanding flexibility and access to high-quality education through its online programmes, introducing new qualifications such as the Master’s in Sports Medicine and the Master’s in Sports Performance and Injury Prevention, both developed in collaboration with Quirónsalud.

Among this year’s new developments are programmes developed in collaboration with prestigious companies and organisations, such as the Master’s in Continuing Professional Development in Congenital Heart Disease, in collaboration with the Spanish Society of Cardiology, and the online Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management, developed in partnership with LaLiga, which is being delivered online from this academic year onwards.

In the field of Health, UAX will continue to promote innovation and differentiation in education under the OneHealth approach, integrating new educational trends that offer a holistic view of human, animal and environmental health. Accordingly, the Faculty of Biomedical and Health Sciences will extend the Digital Health training – which it has been delivering for the past three years as part of the Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine – to all its degree programmes, and will incorporate both general and specific content on Sustainable Health through seminars and events, kicking off on 24 September with a conference on Sustainable Health. For its part, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine is also introducing a Veterinary Simulation Centre, which will enhance the practical training of students on this degree programme from the first year onwards.

In addition to these developments, UAX is committed to facilitating access to education through scholarship schemes aimed at students with outstanding academic records, both locally, with grants from Villanueva de la Cañada Town Council, and internationally, through programmes in collaboration with organisations such as the Organisation of Ibero-American States (OEI) and Rionegro Town Council in Colombia, amongst others.
