Why study law is one of the big questions you’re probably asking yourself. A law degree is one of the most interesting educational options available today for anyone interested in entering a profession that’s in high demand in society.

Studying law is, without a doubt, the best choice for anyone keen to help ensure that established laws are upheld and that ‘justice is done’.

A law degree remains one of the courses offering the widest range of career opportunities. Indeed, within the field of law and the legal profession, numerous vacancies frequently arise in companies and institutions, in both the public and private sectors.

Being a lawyer requires a highly qualified profile to practise law in a variety of roles and professional settings. It is one of those professions that will always be needed and will continue to be in high demand in society, both nationally and internationally.

Sooner or later, we will all need to seek the services of a lawyer for some legal matter. Companies, for example, are well aware of the great need for such professionals and often employ legal specialists to deal with any ‘legal issues’ in which they may be involved.

Studying law is the first step towards changing the world through justice.

Law Degree

Thinking of studying law? First and foremost, you should know that once you graduate with a law degree and obtain the qualification to practise as a solicitor after completing the Master’s in Access to the Legal Profession , you will finally be able to practise the profession you are passionate about; you’ll be entering a profession with a wealth of career opportunities , which we’ve previously highlighted in detail on our blog.

In this post, we’ll help you decide on this degree, highlighting the key factors that make this profession a great investment for the future. Let’s take a look!

Nowadays, it is possible to studyfor alaw degree through distance learning ,face-to-face , or a blended learning programme. Today more than ever, we can tailor our university studies to our actual needs by choosing how we wish to study the degree. Therefore, we can even balance our studies with work if we study law via distance learning.

How long does a law degree take?

The degree programme lasts four years, during which you’ll need to earn 240 ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) credits to graduate. Furthermore, after completing your law degree, you can go on to study a master’s degree qualifying you to practise as a solicitor.

Law is a degree programme that requires you to take in a heavy theoretical workload – consisting of laws upon laws – so it is challenging in terms of the ability needed to absorb many concepts and recall them verbatim. However, thanks to the practical component of the degree, it will be easier to apply the theory and, more importantly, to recall it in every exam and throughout our future careers as solicitors.

If law is your calling, start building a solid foundation.

Are you fully committed to studying law ? As well as knowing that studying this degree will open up a range of career opportunities, you should be aware that the legal world encompasses a multitude of different branches (visit this blog to discover them ), whether you choose Public Law (the branches that regulate the activities of the State and its relations with citizens) or Private Law (those dealing with the rights and obligations of individuals and their relationships).

During the Law degree, students cover the various legal branches they need to know in order to practise the profession: civil, administrative, criminal, commercial, tax, EU or international law, amongst others. Students therefore acquire a basic understanding of each of the specialisms within this degree programme, enabling them to understand the legislation and the workings of the judicial system, whilst gaining an insight into how a country functions, and becoming familiar with resolving the conflicts that arise in everyday life, and learn how to draft and present legally sound arguments. In short, students acquire the essential skills vital for practising law.

However, whilst studying for a degree in Law, it is important to start thinking about which specialism we identify with most and where we believe we can make the greatest contribution to society through our work as legal professionals. For this reason, in the final years of the degree programme, we must begin to narrow down our choice to one branch of law or another – those with which we have become familiar throughout our studies – by selecting the optional modules that particularly appeal to us.

This is the first step towards developing the ideal profile we have chosen as legal professionals, but it is not the only one. Once we have obtained our degree, we will have a great opportunity to advance and take a significant step forward in our professional careers by undertaking a Master’s Degree in Access to the Legal Profession designed specifically to specialise in that area of law which particularly inspires us.
