First term
The first semester is designed to build a solid and in-depth foundation of knowledge regarding the functioning of the child and adolescent brain and its relationship with learning.
COURSES | CREDITS |
Attention, Executive Functions and Hyperactivity | 6 |
Introduction to Child and Adolescent Neuropsychology | 6 |
Memory, Higher-Order Skills and Neurodidactics: | 6 |
Neuropsychology of Language and Communication Disorders | 6 |
Perception, Motor Skills, Lateralisation and Learning | 6 |
Neural Plasticity, Perception and Attention | 4 |
Developmental Psychology | 4 |
- Attention, Executive Functions and Hyperactivity: this module is key. You will explore attentional processes and executive functions (planning, working memory, inhibitory control) in depth, as these form the basis of almost all learning. You will learn to identify and understand the neurobiological basis of ADHD and other attention disorders.
- Introduction to Child and Adolescent Neuropsychology: here you will lay the conceptual foundations of the discipline, studying neurobiological development from infancy through to adolescence. You will understand how the brain matures and what implications this process has for behaviour and the acquisition of new skills.
- Memory, Higher-Order Skills and Neurodidactics: you will explore the different types of memory and their role in the classroom, as well as other complex cognitive skills such as reasoning and problem-solving. You will also discover neurodidactics, the discipline that applies knowledge of the brain to design more effective teaching strategies.
- Neuropsychology of Language and Communication Disorders: language is the ultimate tool for learning. In this module, you will study the neural basis of spoken and written language and learn to identify and intervene in communication disorders such as dysphasia or specific language impairment (SLI).
- Perception, Motor Skills, Lateralisation and Learning: learning is not just a mental process, but also a physical one. This module analyses how sensory perception, motor development and the establishment of lateralisation directly influence key skills such as writing, spatial orientation and coordination.
- Neural Plasticity, Perception and Attention: you will discover one of the most optimistic principles of neuroscience: brain plasticity. You will understand how the brain can change and adapt throughout life through experience, a fundamental concept for designing intervention and re-education programmes.
- Developmental Psychology: to understand a child’s difficulties, one must first understand typical development. This module will provide you with a comprehensive overview of the stages of cognitive, social and emotional development during childhood and adolescence.
Second Term
With the foundations now in place, the second semester focuses on practical application, assessment and the design of intervention programmes to address the specific needs of each pupil.
COURSES | CREDITS |
Difficulties and disorders in reading, writing and arithmetic | 6 |
Assessment and programmes for Autism Spectrum Disorders | 6 |
Master’s Thesis | 6 |
Research Methodology in Educational Neuropsychology | 6 |
Practicum | 6 |
Neuropsychological bases of learning difficulties | 4 |
Pedagogy and neuroscience | 4 |
- Difficulties and Disorders in Reading, Writing and Maths: this is one of the most common areas of intervention. You will learn about the neuropsychological basis of dyslexia, dysgraphia and dyscalculia, and you will be trained in the most effective assessment and intervention tools to help pupils with these difficulties.
- Assessment and Programmes for Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD): ASD requires specialist knowledge. This module will equip you to understand the diversity of the spectrum, carry out tailored neuropsychological assessments and design intervention programmes that enhance these pupils’ communicative, social and academic skills.
- Master’s Thesis (TFM): this is the culmination of your studies, in which you will undertake a research or applied intervention project in an area of your interest. It will allow you to explore a specific topic in depth and demonstrate all the skills you have acquired.
- Research Methodology in Educational Neuropsychology: to be a good professional, you must also know how to conduct research. You will learn to design studies, analyse data and, above all, to critically evaluate the scientific literature so that your interventions are evidence-based.
- Practicum: real-world experience. Through the Practicum, you will have the opportunity to apply your knowledge in a real educational or clinical setting, under the supervision of expert professionals, thereby consolidating your training and your confidence as a neuropsychologist.
- Neuropsychological Bases of Learning Difficulties: this module will provide you with a comprehensive overview of the various learning difficulties, exploring their comorbidities (the co-occurrence of several disorders) and the neurobiological bases that underpin them.
- Pedagogy and Neuroscience: the definitive bridge between the laboratory and the classroom. This module focuses on how to translate discoveries in neuroscience into specific and effective teaching strategies that any teacher can apply in their day-to-day work.

The core modules
Whilst the entire curriculum is designed to provide you with a comprehensive education, certain modules work together to develop the key skills that will define you as a professional in the future. Below, we highlight three areas of expertise that you can develop through this Master’s programme and the modules that will form the basis of each:
1. Your Profile as an Expert in Assessment and Diagnosis: one of your main roles will be to accurately identify and understand the neuropsychological causes underlying learning difficulties. To develop this skill, modules such as ‘Introduction to Child and Adolescent Neuropsychology’ – which will provide you with a framework for understanding brain development – and ‘Neuropsychological Bases of Learning Difficulties’ – which will help you understand the origins of these problems – will be essential. In addition, modules such as Assessment and Programmes for Autism Spectrum Disorders and Neuropsychology of Language and Communication Disorders will enable you to specialise in identifying specific needs.
2. Your Role as an Intervention and Remedial Specialist: once the diagnosis has been made, your key value will lie in designing and implementing personalised support programmes. Here, your training will be underpinned by subjects such as Attention, Executive Functions and Hyperactivity, and Difficulties and Disorders in Reading, Writing and Maths, which will equip you with the tools to address the most common disorders in the classroom. Modules such as Neural Plasticity and Pedagogy and Neuroscience will enable you to create innovative interventions, based on scientific evidence and the brain’s capacity for change.
3. Your Role as an Educational Consultant and Researcher: this Master’s programme also opens the door to a more strategic role, advising educational institutions on the implementation of neuroeducational programmes or advancing knowledge in the field. To this end, the module ‘Research Methodology in Educational Neuropsychology’ will be crucial for ensuring the scientific rigour of your proposals, whilst ‘Memory, Higher-Order Skills and Neurodidactics’ will help you bridge the gap between science and teaching practice. Finally, the Master’s Thesis will be your first major research or consultancy project – your calling card for a future at the forefront of education.
Conclusion
The curriculum of the UAX Online Master’s in Educational Neuropsychology is designed to provide you with a comprehensive, rigorous and highly practical education. Through its modules, you will not only acquire the most up-to-date theoretical knowledge, but you will also develop the skills to assess and intervene in learning difficulties, becoming a key figure in building a more inclusive and effective education system. If you want to be the professional who makes a difference in students’ lives, this is the path for you.
