Pre-university health courses: get ready for university

UAX’s pre-university courses are preparatory programmes aimed at students who wish to prepare themselves before embarking on a university degree in Health Sciences.

Over the course of an academic year, you will be able to strengthen your academic foundations, gradually adapt to the pace of university study and begin to familiarise yourself with the practical aspects of your chosen degree programme.

UAX currently offers three on-campus preparatory programmes at the Villanueva de la Cañada campus: Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine.

What is a pre-university course?

A pre-university course is a preparatory programme designed to ease the transition from secondary school to university.

Its aim is to enable you to begin your higher education with a more solid academic foundation, a better understanding of the pace of university-level learning, and an initial insight into the academic environment of your chosen degree programme.

In the case of Health Sciences degree programmes , these programmes allow you to gradually familiarise yourself with the subject area before starting your degree.

Language training for domestic and international students

Foundation programmes also help students acquire the language skills needed to function with greater confidence on their future degree course.

If your mother tongue is not Spanish, you will receive training in the language and work on the specific terminology of your chosen field. This will help you follow lectures, sit exams and communicate effectively during your future work placements.

For students whose mother tongue is Spanish, please check the details of each programme to find out what language training is included in the curriculum.

Which pre-university course should I choose?

Your choice will depend on the university degree you wish to study afterwards:

· If you want to study Medicine, choose the Medicine Foundation Programme
· If you’re interested in oral health, check out the Dentistry Foundation Programme
· If you want to train in animal health and welfare, the Veterinary Medicine Foundation Programme is the most suitable option

Before enrolling, please check the specific information sheet for each programme to find out about its modules, teaching methods, academic requirements and admissions process.

How long do pre-university courses last?

UAX’s pre-university courses last for one academic year. They are taught face-to-face at the Villanueva de la Cañada campus and begin in September.

During this period, you will be able to consolidate your preparation, familiarise yourself with your chosen subject area and start getting used to the university environment before beginning your degree.
