At UAX we are committed to the correct acquisition of competencies in professional values, scientific foundations, clinical skills, public health and health systems, information management, critical analysis and research. To achieve this, we use an innovative teaching methodology based on experiential learning.

In the nursing degree from the first year, the training is focused from a practical point of view and you will learn about all the nursing specialties.

You will be trained in the Virtual Simulation Hospital, rehearsing all kinds of clinical situations, so that you learn with real dynamics, train your skills, reflect on each action and enter into a process of continuous improvement and evolution.

The most cutting-edge tools on the market to learn in a unique way.

Students work with the latest simulation and immersive reality technologies:

• BodyInteract: interactive table to address real clinical situations with virtual patients;
• SECTRA Portal: learning platform that allows the study of clinical cases and understanding of anatomy, using radiological and histological images of real cases.
• Learning Space: digital platform that connects the entire simulation-based learning environment with the most advanced management and process evaluation tools. In addition, you will train with highly interactive human mannequins and with physiological reactions of adult patients, breastfeeding patients and pregnant women, which will help you to learn about all auxiliary nursing care.

You will also train in the multidisciplinary environment of the Ciudad Sanitaria UAX.

Specific facilities for the Bachelor's Degree in Nursing

Specific classrooms and laboratories

Clinical simulation rooms:

• A small room with capacity for 12 students.
• A multifunctional room with the capacity to be divided into three demonstration rooms adaptable to the different seminars.
• Equipped with adult and baby mannequins for basic and advanced CPR, anatomical models for punctures and cannulation of venous lines, as well as torsos for catheterisation.

Anatomy rooms:

• Two classrooms of 100 m² each with anatomical models of organs and systems of the human body.
• Equipped with electrocardiograph, spirometer, audiometer, podoscope, negatoscope, weighing and measuring scale, optotypes and biofeedback system.
• A necropsy room used in comparative anatomy seminars is also available.

Biological Laboratories:

• Four laboratories for Cell Biology, Biochemistry and Biological Analysis of 250 m² each.
• Equipped with balances, thermostats, stirrers, refrigerators, freezers, centrifuges, baths, autoclaves, optical and fluorescence microscopes, PCR, cold chambers, among others.
• They allow for the simultaneous activity of up to 125 students.

Shared laboratories and computer rooms

• Computer laboratories: There are 8 laboratories, each with 30 computers and specialised software for health management such as GACELA and OMIAP.
• Library: Space with 670 reading stations, online scientific databases and a newspaper and periodicals library with specialised journals.

In addition to the UAX Degree in Nursing, you will obtain the Diploma of Expert in Emergencies, Emergencies and Critical Care. You will be prepared to deal with emergency situations in any health service and you will be able to provide assistance in Emergency or ICU areas. You will also have the knowledge of all nursing specialities to guide your professional future.

Access route and requirements:

Alfonso X el Sabio University conforms to the provisions of Royal Decree 822/2021, on the organisation of university education, and to Article 38 of Organic Law 2/2006, in its current wording following the LOMLOE. Likewise, the applicable university regulations are Organic Law 2/2023 on the University System (LOSU). In terms of access and admission to official degree courses, Royal Decree 534/2024, of 11 June, which regulates the requirements for access to official university degree courses, the basic characteristics of the entrance exam and the basic regulations for admission procedures, is applicable.

Recommended entry profile

• Interest in health sciences and care of people.
• Interpersonal communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to make decisions in clinical settings.

Admission criteria and tests:

The University establishes an access process that is synthesised in:
1. Psychopedagogical evaluation of the different aptitudes required of a university student, depending on the studies he/she has chosen and the previous knowledge necessary to successfully complete those studies.
2. Level test in the foreign language chosen by the student.
3. Didactic orientation session on the vocational option chosen by the student.
4. If necessary, personal interview with the student to clear up any doubts that may arise.
In any case, the tests established by the University are not exclusive in themselves, but rather orientative.

Recognition of credits:

The recognition of credits in official university degree courses must respect the following basic rules:

a) Provided that the destination degree belongs to the same branch as the degree of origin, the credits corresponding to basic training subjects of that branch shall be subject to recognition.

b) The credits corresponding to those other basic training subjects taken belonging to the branch of destination shall also be subject to recognition.

c) The rest of the credits will be recognised by the University taking into account the adequacy between the competences and knowledge associated with the remaining subjects taken by the student and those foreseen in the syllabus or which are of a cross-cutting nature.

For each student who requests it, a personalised study will be carried out according to the previous studies that he/she accredits.

Alfonso X El Sabio University has approved and published regulations adapted to Royal Decree 822/2021 to deal with the transfer and recognition of credits.

The students were able to learn about how to start out in the profession and how to become a member of a professional association from the general secretary of the Official College of Nursing of Madrid; how to work in public health through the experience of the head of the Human Resources Nursing Department of the Gregorio Marañón University Hospital; and how nursing is managed in private health care with the intervention of the corporate director of Nursing of the Quirónsalud Hospital Group. Other professional opportunities and nursing specialities were also discussed, such as specialisation in geriatric nursing, the profession of midwives, midwives, auxiliary nursing care, working in the pharmaceutical industry or even in the Armed Forces.

The UAX promotes the culture of quality among the university community through the UAX Quality System (SIUAX), for which the University Management is ultimately responsible, ensuring that the planning of the system is implemented to effectively meet the quality objectives, the satisfaction of needs, requirements and expectations of customers and interested parties.

The responsible bodies are:

- Governing Council: the highest decision-making body in the academic sphere and responsible for the deployment of improvement in academic processes. It is made up of the Rector, the Vice-Rectors, the Deans, the Secretary General and the Directorate of Student Services. Those responsible for the areas of Talent and Technology also participate.

- Faculty/Centre Board: body for monitoring the deployment of academic processes at faculty level. It is made up of the head of the faculty, the heads of studies of the degree programmes and the quality coordinator.

- Degree Monitoring and Improvement Committee (SIM): responsible for ensuring academic quality and compliance with the commitments made in the programme report. It is made up of the head of studies, lecturers, the quality manager and at least one student.
