Our students on the Master's Degree in Teacher Training will have access to:

Public, subsidised and private centres in the following communities in which we have an agreement: Canary Islands, Castilla La Mancha, Catalonia, Extremadura, Community of Madrid, Region of Murcia, Navarre, Basque Country and Balearic Islands*.

Private and subsidised centres with private area: Andalucía, Principado de Asturias, Galicia, Castilla y León and Comunidad Valenciana.

Due to the transfer of competences in education, it is not possible to carry out placements in the following regions: Cantabria and Melilla. In Aragon and Ceuta, internships cannot be guaranteed either.

*In the Balearic Islands, despite not having specific agreements, regional regulations allow students to go to public, private and subsidised centres.

Work Placement Centres

The Alfonso X el Sabio University (UAX) and Empieza Por Educar (ExE) have been collaborating for years with a common goal: to promote equal opportunities in education, training future teachers who want to make a real impact on society.

ExE is a non-profit organisation that develops the "ExE Programme " to train young people and professionals who teach in schools in disadvantaged environments, combining practical teaching with training and support. Thanks to its alliance with UAX, the participants study the Master's Degree in Compulsory Secondary Education and Baccalaureate, Vocational Training and Language Teaching and obtain the official qualification as teachers.

In addition to academic training, the collaboration includes educational innovation initiatives such as the Makers projects, in which students apply their knowledge in real contexts, developing actions such as:

• Evaluation of the comprehensive impact of the ExE Programme on educational equity.
• Design and deployment of key workshops in seminar format.
• Creation of teaching materials on neuroscience and emotions for ESO.

The master's degree in teacher training is aimed at graduates who wish to teach in Compulsory Secondary Education, Baccalaureate, Vocational Training or Language Teaching and who have sufficient training in the subjects corresponding to their chosen speciality (consult for specialities, preferential access qualifications and related qualifications).

Note on professional attachment: The Master's degree is a necessary but not sufficient condition to work as a Secondary Education Teacher. In public schools, it is necessary to pass the corresponding competitive examination. In private and state-subsidised schools, the requirements are established in Royal Decree 860/2010 of 2 July and Royal Decree 665/2015 of 17 July, which regulates the initial training conditions for teachers in private schools to teach in Compulsory Secondary Education or Baccalaureate. Vocational education and training and special education also have other specific regulations. The application of these regulations may vary in the different Autonomous Communities. In case of doubt, it is advisable to consult the corresponding services of the public administrations.

Taking a double specialisation: This option is not part of the academic offer, given that, in accordance with Royal Decree 860/2010, of 2 July, and Royal Decree 665/2015, of 17 July, teaching in secondary education depends on the undergraduate university qualifications that the candidate holds, while the specialisation taken in the master's degree has an exclusively educational-pedagogical function.

Weighting of admission criteria when demand exceeds the Master's degree offer

The admission tests for the Master's Degree in Compulsory Secondary Education and Baccalaureate, Vocational Training and Language Teaching are as follows:

1. Psychopedagogical assessment of the different skills required of a university student, depending on the studies he/she has chosen, the previous knowledge necessary to successfully complete the studies he/she wishes to take and, in particular, for this Master's Degree, his/her aptitude for teaching.
2. Proof of level in the foreign language chosen by the student that guarantees a command of a foreign language equivalent to level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, in accordance with ORDER ECI/3858/2007, of 27 December, in section 4.2. Students applying for admission to the speciality of Foreign Language: English must show a level of knowledge of English equivalent to B2 according to the CEFR. Those who provide an official certificate accrediting the required level of English will be exempt from taking this English language level test.
3. Exam that accredits adequate training in the disciplinary content corresponding to the chosen speciality. This test can only be taken by those students who do not have a degree that is completely related, in terms of its subject area, to the speciality they wish to study.
4. An interview carried out online by the director of the Master's Degree, where the candidate's attitude to teaching will be assessed, as well as their aptitude for teaching.

Alfonso X El Sabio University has approved and published a regulation adapted to Royal Decree 1393/2007 to deal with the transfer and recognition of credits.

Among its articles it is stated that the recognition of credits in official Master's degree courses will be carried out taking into account the adequacy between the competences and knowledge derived from the courses taken and those foreseen in the syllabus of the corresponding courses.

The following criteria will be followed:

• Credits taken in official non-university higher education courses may not be recognised.
• Credits taken in the degree programmes of the institution itself may not be recognised.
• Credits taken as a result of accreditation of work experience may not be recognised.
• The number of credits that are subject to recognition based on professional or work experience may not exceed, as a whole, 15 per cent of the total number of credits that make up the syllabus.

The Master's Degree in Teacher Training legally qualifies you to work as a teacher in Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO), Baccalaureate, Vocational Training (FP) and language teaching. The UAX Master's Degree in Secondary Education, Vocational Training and Language Teaching lasts 9 months and is an official qualification with 60 ECTS credits.

The UAX master's degree in teaching is an official qualification in high demand, so places are usually filled quickly. You will be able to access the master's degree in teaching directly on the basis of your university degree or official qualifications related to the specialisation. You do not have the option of completing specific complementary training if the entrance qualification is not completely related, in terms of its subject area, to the speciality you wish to study or, where applicable, if you do not pass the exam that accredits adequate training in the disciplinary content corresponding to the chosen speciality. The salary of a teacher in these areas depends on several factors such as experience, the school (public, private) and the autonomous community. In general, the average salary is around €34,000 per year, but it can be higher or lower depending on the case.

Yes, this Master's Degree in Teaching replaces what used to be known as the Certificate of Teaching Aptitude (CAP).

The CAP was discontinued in the academic year 2009/2010. The current name is the University Master's Degree in Teacher Training for Compulsory Secondary Education and Baccalaureate, Vocational Training and Language Teaching.

The Degree Monitoring and Enhancement Committee is made up of the master's degree management, a representative of the degree's teaching staff, a student representative and a representative of the Vice-Rector's Office for Studies and Quality Assurance. This committee periodically analyses the degree's quality indicators and draws up improvement plans based on objective evidence.

Improvement Actions Implemented:

Academic year 2023-2024 and Academic year 2024-2025.

Based on the analysis of results and feedback from stakeholders, the following improvement actions have been identified and implemented:

1. Updating of training materials: Adaptation of all master's degree materials to the most recent educational regulations, including the LOMLOE and subsequent regulatory developments.
2. Improvement of horizontal and vertical coordination: Implementation of more effective coordination mechanisms between subjects in the same term and between the different modules of the master's degree.
3. Incorporation of innovation and research projects: Integration of active methodologies and educational innovation projects, including collaboration with the Empieza por Educar Foundation through the Xcelence - Schools that inspire project.
4. Unification of the starting date for external placements: A period of reflection will be opened to assess the possibility of establishing a common starting date for all students, thus responding to the perception of disorganisation generated by the existence of different starting dates.
5. Coherence and coordination between subjects: Teachers will be informed of the need to clarify and align content, with special attention being paid to the next academic year in order to reduce the perception of contradictions on the part of students when faced with subjects dealt with from different perspectives.

The following Improvement Actions are planned for the 2025-2026 academic year:
1. Optimisation of documentation:

• Elaboration of an improved learning guide that eliminates specific time references and information subject to continuous changes, thus guaranteeing the stability and usability of the training materials.
• Improvement of the academic timetable with a clear specification of dates for the delivery of activities and exams, providing greater organisational clarity for students.

2. Methodological review of training activities:

• Exhaustive analysis of the time allocated to each training activity in order to optimise the student's workload.
• Revision of the explanations and orientations of the activities to improve their understanding and development by the students.

3. Restructuring of the academic calendar: Implementation of a redistribution of calendars that allows the subjects of External Internships and Master's Thesis to have an exclusive period, reducing the overload of teaching identified by the students.

4. Updating of the internship seminar programme: Complete revision of the topics of the internship seminars to update them and adapt them to the real needs and professional demands of our students, incorporating the latest trends and regulations in the educational field.
