At UAX, we are committed to innovation through new aromatised asphalt mixes that we are developing in collaboration with PADECASA and KAO CHEMICALS EUROPE. This technology, driven by our PADECASA-UAX Chair, is being implemented in the city with the active involvement of our civil engineering students.
Thanks to our collaboration with Madrid City Council, we are continuing to drive forward a pioneering project on an international scale. Through this initiative, we are directly improving the quality of life and safeguarding the health of citizens in urban environments.
This project has generated significant impact and marked a new milestone with the award of Europe’s first CE marking certificate for an aromatised bituminous mixture. Furthermore, we have received prestigious awards such as the AURA Awards, which recognise our work towards making the air we breathe healthier.
During this trial phase, we are assessing the performance of aromatised asphalt mixes under real-world conditions. In this way, we are making progress in developing solutions that drastically reduce the perception of unpleasant odours during urban paving works.
We tackle the challenges associated with infrastructure using our own proprietary technology to combat the odours generated by bituminous mixtures. In our research, we incorporate specific additives that impart pleasant aromas, such as citrus notes, and apply odour inhibitors to mitigate the impact of the asphalt without compromising its excellent technical performance.
Through our UAXmakers methodology, we involve our students as the driving force behind this research. Using this challenge-based learning model, we link academic training with business innovation to equip professionals with the skills demanded by the labour market.
All of this reflects our daily efforts, in which we link university talent with the real-world challenges facing society. At UAX, we open up new possibilities so that the knowledge generated in our classrooms can be transformed into innovation with a real and sustainable impact for the public.
