In the master's degree in periodontics and oral surgery you will specialise in surgical practice by applying the most innovative technology and techniques.

The best way to acquire a high level of specialisation in surgery is by tackling multiple cases of varying degrees of complexity, in order to develop your knowledge and technical skills in each intervention.

In this Master's Degree in Periodontics, Oral Surgery and Implantology that you will study at our university in Madrid, you will be able to join a coordinated multidisciplinary team to deal with more than 200 cases per week and take your training to another level, using the most advanced surgical technology.

Evaluation Criteria

Evaluation:

The student will have 2 evaluation tests in order to pass the subject, these tests will be cumulative and must be passed separately in order to pass the subject, if the student does not pass either of the two parts the student will have to sit the extraordinary exam of the subject, in the case of not passing the latter the subject will be suspended and the student must re-enrol in the same with the consequent academic and economic burden for the following year.

The work established during the course, such as bibliographic research, development of topics or posters, etc., will be counted as Continuous Assessment.

The arithmetic average of the grades of the evaluation tests will have a value of 80% of the final grade, the other 20% corresponding to the sum of the controls, work and posters that are carried out during the course.

Attendance:

Unexcused absences will not be allowed, absences must be made up during the "emergency" period at Easter, Christmas or in July/August, each absence is equivalent to one day to be made up. 3 tardies of 10 minutes are one absence, 6 tardies of 5 minutes are one absence.

Failure to complete the work or homework assigned in theory classes will be considered a failure to attend and the student will be expelled from the class at that moment. If this behaviour is reiterative, punitive measures may be applied, such as temporary expulsion or a ban on taking part in any procedure.

Failure to comply with an emergency recovery or having 3 unexcused absences will be sanctioned according to the Master's management, with measures such as temporary expulsion, prohibition in the performance of any procedure or definitive expulsion from the programme.

At the same time, the student must attend the Annual Meeting of the Spanish Society of Periodontology and Osseointegration and the Young Meeting of the Spanish Society of Periodontology and Osseointegration. Failure to attend these meetings will be sanctioned as detailed in the previous paragraph. In the case of coinciding with the European Federation of Periodontology Meeting (Europerio), the student must attend it, being optional the presentation of a communication.

Knowledge evaluation tests:

There will be 2 evaluation tests, both will consist of 10 questions in the form of short development questions, the first one will be held in January after the Christmas break while the second one will be held in June, these tests must be passed individually and the mark of the one passed will be kept. If any of these tests are not passed, the student will have the opportunity to take an extraordinary exam in mid-July, in this exam the student will lose the continuous assessment and will only be able to obtain at most a 7. If the student fails this exam, he/she will have to register again for the subject in the following year.

Evaluation

Continuous Assessment:

- Analysis of the literature related to the syllabus: Participation in these and the quality of the analysis of these articles will be assessed.

- Evidence-based Treatment Plan Paper: The quality of the articles chosen and the quality of the presentation will be assessed.

- Review papers additional to the syllabus such as: periodontopathogens dossiers, presentation of chemical and physical agents, etc...

- Presentations of scientific communications at national congresses of the Spanish Society of Periodontology and Osseointegration (SEPA Junior Meeting 1 poster per pair, Annual Meeting 1 poster per student), in the case of coinciding with a meeting of the European Federation of Periodontology (Europerio) the presentation of a communication will be optional.

- Control of short questions about lectures selected by the teaching staff of the subject from the meetings and courses indicated as compulsory attendance.

Methodology

80% of the content of the master's degree is practical and the activity is carried out directly on patients, who are given treatment plans backed by scientific and clinical criteria.
Theoretical classroom training, decision-making in the treatment plan sessions, and pre-clinical and clinical practice sessions are carried out from the first day and throughout the training.
The student's involvement in the cases is total. Work is carried out in teams (in pairs) from day one.
Master classes are held every week.
Research is encouraged and projects are carried out from the first course.
Literature review in English is carried out every week.
Workshops and pre-clinical internships are carried out with prestigious companies in the sector, with the possibility of staying at their headquarters.
