This programme is aimed at veterinary professionals who wish to learn more about animal welfare from a scientific, regulatory and applied approach. Throughout the course you will acquire technical tools to assess, audit and improve welfare in livestock farms and slaughterhouses, in line with the most demanding international standards.

Module 1 - Introduction, feeding and comfort
Basis of animal welfare, regulatory framework and assessment methods. Relationship between nutrition, management, comfort and their impact on health, behaviour and productivity in livestock systems.
Module 2 - Health and behaviour
Assessment of welfare from animal health and applied ethology. Identification of indicators of stress, pain and disease, and design of management strategies that improve human-animal interaction.
Module 3 - Transport and slaughter
Analysis of regulations and welfare standards in animal transport and slaughter, including risk management, humane procedures and auditing at critical stages of production.
Module 4 - Practical application
Application of knowledge in real contexts through case studies, audits, technical visits and design of animal welfare improvement plans.
Faculty of the Expert in Animal Welfare in Animal Husbandry
Veterinarian and university lecturer, with experience in animal production, animal welfare and innovation applied to livestock farming.
Expert engineer in transport, slaughter and traceability, with extensive knowledge of regulations, auditing and best practices in animal welfare at critical stages of production.
General Director of the Spanish Association of Beef Producers (ASOPROVAC) since 2018, with extensive experience in beef cattle sustainability, animal welfare and climate change.
Doctor with experience in animal welfare audits, analysis of real cases and design of improvement plans applied to livestock farms and slaughterhouses.

The Expert in Animal Welfare in Livestock is based on a practical and applied methodology, oriented towards the resolution of real situations in the livestock sector. Throughout the programme, the student combines the acquisition of theoretical foundations with the direct application of knowledge in professional contexts, developing solid technical criteria and decision-making skills.
The training is supported by the analysis of real cases, animal welfare audits, technical visits and practical activities guided by working professionals. This approach allows the student to acquire a global vision of animal welfare and to apply the regulations and quality standards with rigour, safety and professional approach.
Isabel Rodríguez Hurtado. Veterinarian and academic head of the Expert in Animal Welfare in Livestock at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the UAX. She has extensive experience in animal welfare applied to livestock production systems, integrating the scientific, regulatory and practical approach. From the direction of the programme, he ensures academic coherence, training quality and professional orientation of the degree, ensuring a training aligned with the reality and current demands of the sector.
The programme is coordinated by a multidisciplinary team of doctors and professionals specialised in animal welfare and livestock production, with direct experience in real contexts of the sector.
This team guarantees a balanced training between scientific knowledge, regulations and practical application, with a realistic vision that is directly transferable to professional practice.
Applicants must have a degree in veterinary medicine.

In our Simulation Classrooms you can practice every procedure with experiential simulators: castration stations, suturing, intubation, surgical, equine anatomical corpora, etc.
In our Clinical Veterinary Hospital, one of the most advanced in Europe, training is 100% practical from day one. The hospital performs more than 12,000 clinical procedures per year and more than 480 equine surgeries per year, as well as a 24/7 operational ICU for small and large animals. It has more than 7,000 m2 equipped with medical technology. You will learn with experts in the main specialties: oncology, neurology, traumatology, minimally invasive surgery, sports medicine, etc., and you will deal with cases of all types of complexity for a more complete experience.
