Iris Núñez-Trébol
Iris Núñez Trébol is Vice-Rector for Research and Doctoral Studies at the Universidad Alfonso X el Sabio (UAX). She studied Geography at the Complutense University of Madrid and at the University of Leeds (UK). She holds a Master's degree in Environment and Development Studies from the University of Cambridge and a PhD from the Complutense University of Madrid, as well as a postdoctoral stay at the Real Colegio Complutense of Harvard University.
He has more than 25 years of experience in university management, with a special focus on internationalisation, strategic planning and institutional development. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the UNICEF Madrid Committee. Her career combines academic leadership and extensive experience in international higher education.
Irene Sánchez Martín
PhD in Developmental Biology and veterinary medicine, with an international career in biomedical research. She was a postdoctoral researcher at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (New York), where she studied how viral infections and inflammation during pregnancy can affect brain development and contribute to neurodevelopmental disorders. Previously, she conducted research at institutions such as the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and Columbia University in the United States, as well as at the CNRS in France, where she completed her PhD as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie researcher. Her career also includes experience in Germany in the field of clinical analysis. She is currently a Senior Researcher at the Alfonso X el Sabio University.
Alberto Benito Martín
PhD in Biomedicine, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. He is currently a lecturer at the Faculty of Biomedical and Health Sciences of the UAX and principal investigator at the Health Research Institute of the Hospital Clínico San Carlos (IdISSC), where he carries out his scientific activity with a Miguel Servet contract. His research focuses on the role of extracellular vesicles in cell-cell communication and their involvement in cancer progression, especially in the context of the tumour microenvironment and metastasis. Throughout his career he has worked at international institutions such as Weill Cornell Medicine in New York and Dublin City University, and has numerous scientific publications in the field of tumour biology and immunology. In addition to his research activity, he is actively involved in university teaching and scientific dissemination.
Francisco Javier Justo Bermejo
Predoctoral researcher at the Biomedical Research Unit of the UAX. His work focuses on cell biology and genetics, studying the interaction between different cell signalling pathways and their role in processes such as stem cell regulation, cancer biology and cellular ageing. He is part of the SMAD Signaling Mechanisms during Aging and Disease research group, where he works on the study of the molecular mechanisms that regulate aging and the development of new gene editing tools applied to biomedical research.
Gonzalo Pascual Álvarez
PhD in Veterinary Science and current technical director and head of the Biosafety Area of the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII). He has extensive experience in the field of biosafety and biocontainment and is the author of the first doctoral thesis on biosafety in Spain. Throughout his career he has held positions of responsibility in high biological containment facilities and has collaborated with national and international organisations in biological risk management. He is currently president of the Spanish Biosafety Association, of which he is a founding member, and actively participates in the development of biosafety regulations and strategies. He also teaches biosafety in doctoral programmes at the Alfonso X el Sabio University, contributing to the training of researchers in this field.
